The Marvellous Miss Take Introduction:

The Marvellous Miss Take, released in 2014, is a stealth video game crafted by Wonderstruck and published by Rising Star Games. The game's central character, Sophia Take, is the rightful inheritor of her great-aunt's valuable art collection, which has been sold to private collectors. The primary goal of the game is for players to pilfer this collection, cunningly displayed in various art galleries throughout London, all while skillfully dodging security measures, such as vigilant guards and watchful cameras. The game, specifically designed to feature nonviolent gameplay, made its debut in November 2014, available for both Windows and macOS platforms. Reviewers commended the assortment of gameplay mechanics, particularly those introduced by additional player characters aside from Sophia. However, they voiced criticisms about the repetitive nature of the level design, which hindered the overall gameplay experience.

In The Marvellous Miss Take, players step into a 3D stealth world. They assume the role of Sophia Take, also known as Miss Take, who is on a mission to reclaim her inherited art collection. This collection is spread across twenty-five art galleries in London, and Miss Take must employ various strategies to outwit security, including guards and cameras. Players have options like staying out of the guards' line of sight, creating distractions to divert their attention, or utilizing gadgets such as noisemakers and teleporters. Upon successfully completing a gallery heist, players have the option to replay the level with two other characters, Harry and Daisy, each offering distinct gameplay mechanics. The gallery layouts evolve depending on the character chosen for the mission.

Gameplay:

The concept for The Marvellous Miss Take and its protagonist, Sophia Take, emerged from an office party conversation where a Wonderstruck employee discussed the challenge of finding a suitable "female action figure" as a Christmas gift for his daughter. In response, a coworker suggested making the main character of their latest project a woman, leading to the creation of Miss Take. The decision to incorporate solely nonviolent gameplay mechanics aimed to maintain player awareness of their surroundings. The studio drew inspiration from Shigeru Miyamoto's comments about the difficulty of Super Mario Bros. when designing Harry's character. Harry's gameplay is considered the expert mode, offering a unique set of skills, paths, and objectives within a gallery level.

The Marvellous Miss Take received "mixed or average" reviews on the review aggregator Metacritic. Reviewers applauded the diverse gameplay mechanics offered by the three player characters but raised concerns about the repetitive and constraining level design. The use of multiple characters, each with their own gameplay mechanics, was seen as an ingenious way to enrich the game. Some reviewers believed it encouraged different playstyles, with Daisy's pickpocketing mechanic, for example, teaching players to be more confident around guards when playing as Sophia. However, criticisms were aimed at the level design, including random guard patrols that were considered unreliable and frustrating to navigate, as well as traps that took advantage of imprecise movement controls, leading to moments of tedium in the game."
